Open Day is a very special day for our supporters and their guests to see first hand where their generous donations are being spent.
Guests had the opportunity to inspect our newest King Air B200 Aircraft, the MVW which costs around $8 million to purchase and fit out with life saving medical equipment.
Also on display was the RFDS King Air aircraft that is used to transport medical specialists to rural towns, a 1948 de Havilland Drover used by the RFDS in the 1960s, vintage cars and historical communications and medical equipment.
Guests listened to fascinating talks by Dr Mike Hill and Flight Nurse Tracey King, Engineering Manager Matt Eddy, pilot Cameron Gibbs, Volunteer Speaker Doug Roser who talked about our 80 year history, flying dentist Lyn Mayne, RFDS Women’s GP Service Program Manager, Jacqui Mackenzie and Women’s GP Dr Jane Marr. There were also cheque presentations from our wonderful and generous supporters FedEx, Australian Walk of Fame, Jackaroo 4WD Club and World Flight Australia.
Three very special guests, 80 year old Peggy Shields and Antony Thomson, and Nancy Bird-Walton also helped blow out the candles on our 80th anniversary birthday cake.
The Flying Doctor would like to thank the many supporters and guests that attended who helped make Open Day an incredible success.
