Digital cameras, a fog machine, a box of hair extensions, a trumpet and a set of Rocky action figurines were among the items set to benefit charity at Australia Post’s Mail Redistribution Centre (MRC) auction in Sydney on Monday 11 February.
As well as auctioning undeliverable items from the past three months, Australia Post presented the Royal Flying Doctor Service with a cheque for $14,210 which was raised at the last MRC auction, held in October last year. $16,338 was also raised at the June 2007 auction which was presented to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation.
Around 20,000 undeliverable items find their way to the MRC (formerly known as the Dead Letter Office) each week, because the address details are incorrect and no return address is written on the letter or parcel. Australia Post auctions items which remain unclaimed for three months and donates the proceeds to charity.
The RFDS would like to thank Australia Post for their generous donation which will go towards the purchase of vital medical equipment.
