The SE Section employs Australia’s only Flying Dentist who has worked with the RFDS in Broken Hill since 1998 providing a much needed dental service to the people of remote Far West NSW.
Our dentist conducts dental clinics in remote areas of Far West NSW, in Broken Hill at the Maari Ma Aboriginal Health Service and for both the Correctional Health Service and the Greater Western Area Health Service.
Our dentist also mentors students who undertake work experience with the Service through the University of Sydney. During the year more than 20 students from Australia and overseas visit the Section and work as part of the primary healthcare dental team.
There have been 178 dental clinics over the past year at which 1,468 patients were seen. Services provided include restorations, extractions, dentures, root canal treatment plus oral health promotion and school screening services.
In the coming year, our aim is to broaden the dental program in cooperation with the Greater Western Area Health Service and Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation with the employment of a second dentist for the network area.
