The Royal Flying Doctor Service of
Australia, Maari Ma Health and the
University of Sydney, Department of Rural Health Broken Hill are seeking to recruit two general practitioners with interests in Aboriginal health and the prevention and management of chronic disease. The positions will work as part of a multi-disciplinary primary care team providing services to the Broken Hill Aboriginal Medical Service and the remote communities of Wilcannia, Menindee and Ivanhoe.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides the people of western NSW with comprehensive emergency and primary health care as well as broad based community services. Maari Ma Health is recognised as one of the most innovative and progressive Aboriginal health services in Australia. Maari Ma Health and the Royal Flying Doctor Service work collaboratively to deliver primary health care services to the Aboriginal people in Broken Hill and the surrounding region.
While there are no prescribed after-hours duties associated with these positions, there are opportunities, skills permitting, to work on the RFDS emergency roster or with the Barrier Division of General Practice after-hours service. The position will also be expected to contribute to student programs and the successful applicant will be offered a joint appointment with the University of Sydney, Department of Rural Health.
The positions will be employed by the RFDS and be part of the same collegial activities enjoyed by existing cohort of RFDS doctors, for instance, 6 weekly education days. The positions will report to the Maari Ma Health Senior General Practitioner, who also holds a conjoint position at the RFDS as the Senior Medical Officer, Primary Health Care.
The Person
Applicants should have a Medical degree registrable in NSW and demonstrate a commitment to primary health approaches to Aboriginal health. The selection criteria are included in the information package.
Remuneration
The remuneration package is based on experience and qualifications, with a generous salary sacrifice scheme, superannuation, five weeks annual leave plus public holidays and two weeks study leave. In addition, executive style residential accommodation and a motor vehicle are provided.

The successful applicant will be based in the City of Broken Hill, which is well catered for in terms of educational, sporting, cultural and community facilities and is ideally located close to some of the most spectacular natural and historical features of outback Australia.
