On Friday 30 November supporters and personnel of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (South Eastern Section) were invited to the opening of Total Aerospace Solutions new aircraft hangar where the main attraction was the new Flying Doctor aircraft, Mike Victor Whiskey (MVW).
The $8 million aircraft, purchased with the generous support of our donors, has been in the process of modification since its arrival in the country in May.
MVW spent four months at Hawker Pacific in Bankstown having its entry door enlarged to allow stretchers to be easily manoeuvred onto and around the aircraft and additions to the instrumentation suite were installed that include new tacking devices, the latest GPS navigation systems and an upgraded aircraft avoidance system.
In October, MVW was ferried to Townsville where it was painted in RFDS livery. After this five week process the aircraft returned to AlbionPark where TAS will spend the next three months installing a world first aeromedical fit out.
RFDS SE Section Business Development Manager, Alan Tippett said, “The work Total Aerospace Solutions is undertaking represents a milestone in the South Eastern Section’s desire to develop a standard aeromedical fit that is highly adaptable to meet the needs of our doctors and nurses and in turn the patients that we transport. The design is groundbreaking and will make our service more effective and efficient.”
During the aeromedical fit out, patient oxygen, power systems, stretcher loading and mounting devices will be fitted as well as state of the art medical equipment which qualifies our aircraft as fully operational flying intensive care units.
You will be able to view photos of the aircrafts progress here over the coming months.
Designs for the new stretcher system and new seating system with communications between doctor, nurse and pilot integrated into the arm of the seat.
